Boys Varsity Basketball, Girls Varsity Basketball · Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball Teams Compete in Roundball Classic

The Varsity Girls and Boys Basketball teams competed in the annual Roundball Classic hosted by Augusta Prep over the weekend (December 5th-7th).

The Lady Predators opened with a 48-33 loss to Augusta Christian, but rallied in their final 2 games with a 36-33 win over Dominion Christian and a 43-31 win over Edmund Burke Academy. Keziah McAdoo was named to the All-Tournament team for her outstanding efforts. The senior led the Lady Preds in rebounding and steals during the 3 games.

The Varsity Boys defeated Westminster 73-46 in the opening game and then won over Dominion Christian 71-43 in the semifinals to advance to the Roundball Classic Championship game vs Augusta Christian. The Preds got off to a hot start, leading 12-2 and forcing the Lions to call a timeout. However, AC went on 12-0 run to end the 1st quarter and took a 14-12 lead. Both teams exchanged the lead throughout the game, but foul trouble plagued FC and Coach Peckham’s decision to knowingly leave Jadon Johnson on the floor with 3 fouls late in the 1st half proved costly when he picked up his 4th foul with just 5.1 seconds remaining in the half. Jacoby Johnson and Jadon Johnson both fouled out in the 4th quarter for the Predators. AC shot 20 for 24 from the FT line, while FC was only 17 for 27 from the charity stripe.

For the Lions, Elijah Crawford (8th grader) and Tray Moseley (Junior) continued to make some big plays down the stretch to help AC get the victory by a final score of 66-60. Deavion Scales (Senior) led the Predators in scoring in all 3 games of the tournament (averaging 17.3 PPG) and was named to the All-Tournament team. Chandler O’Bannon (Sophomore) was also named to the All-Tournament team after leading the team in rebounds and blocked shots.

Both Varsity teams will now host Strom Thurmond High School on Tuesday night at HOME. JV Boys game will begin at 5:00 pm with the Varsity Girls and Varsity Boys games to follow.
