Fearless Predators Lose Heartbreaker to Gray Collegiate!
If you missed Thursday’s matchup between Fox Creek and Gray Collegiate, you missed a whale of a game. With 1st place in the region on the line, it was an epic battle between the two teams. I am not sure there is a tougher, more resilient team than the Lady Predators right now.
Their game plan was to stifle Gray’s attack, after they fired 21 shots on goal in the last meeting. It worked, as Gray only had 7 shots in the first half. But, as happened in the first meeting, Gray got a lucky bounce to go up 1-0.
However, the Lady Predators responded with a wonder goal from Amy Mackin early in the 2nd half. From probably 25 yards out, she launched a shot into the far upper corner that Gray keeper could not touch. The game was knotted at 1. Fox Creek’s crowd was loud and it appeared to get into Gray Collegiate’s head. They were totally out of their game plan, not stringing any possession passes together and picking up two yellow cards. Unfortunately the physical nature of the game began to take it’s toll, as 5 Fox Creek players had to go to the sidelines to receive medical attention. I’m telling you they played fearless and ferocious all game long!
With less than 5 minutes remaining, an Eagles player found just enough of an opening and placed a shot just out of the reach of Bailey Wates. The Predators played hard to the final whistle, but couldn’t find an equalizer. The game ended as a 2-1 final in favor of Gray Collegiate.
Thursday was also senior night. At halftime, Fox Creek honored the contributions of Larissa Allen, Leigh Ann Cox, Emma Kerekanich, Amy Mackin, and Davis Ratcliffe. These girls have been the backbone of the team this year, providing positive leadership in their actions on and off the field. We are so proud of their accomplishments!
Finally, thank you fans! You were truly our 12th man tonight!
