In a football series known as “The Battle for the Paddle” these rivals squared off on the baseball diamond. A back and forth affair ultimately saw the home team prevail in the end as Augusta Christian upended Fox Creek 5-4. In the Predators final scrimmage Junior Caleb Baynham got the start on the mound throwing 3 strong innings punching out 6 Lions hitters allowing just 1 run. For the Lions, Charleston Southern commit, Sam Massey was on the mound. The lefty spun 5 innings of 1 hit ball striking out 10. The Predators battled through the strong start to put 4 runs on the board. Michael Adams, Zack Toole and Jackson Pruett strung together key at bats giving the visitors a 4-2 lead heading into the bottom of the 5th inning. The lead unfortunately was relinquished in the home half of the 6th. The Lions were able to put up 3 runs and Jordan Heath closed the door with a 6 out save to seal the victory for the home team. This was the only meeting between varsity squads this year.
The boys now look to toe up new competition as they start regular season play Saturday, February 29, at Woodland High School. Pinewood Prep and Wade Hampton will be part of a double header in the Woodland Wood Bat Classic. Look forward to seeing you there! Go Creek!
